About Me
Hello! My name is Mike Colony. I’m an aerospace engineer and fledgling author who brings decades of technical expertise to my hard science fiction. I’ve spent my career working on some of the nation’s most technologically advanced systems, including the F/A-18 and F-35 fighters, the Ballistic Missile Defense System , and leading R&D efforts for the military and intelligence community. For the past decade, I’ve led a team of brilliant research scientists and software engineers exploring the frontiers of artificial intelligence and machine learning.
Growing up, I was shaped by the visionaries of science fiction’s golden age: Carl Sagan’s sense of cosmic wonder, Arthur C. Clarke’s technological prophecy, Robert Heinlein’s bold speculation, and the collaborative universe-building of Niven and Pournelle. More recently, I’ve been inspired by Andy Weir’s meticulous attention to scientific detail and Hugh Howey’s ability to blend intimate human drama with vast conceptual scope.
The VENUS COLLECTIVE SERIES represents my commitment to hard science fiction that respects both the rigor of real science and the power of human storytelling. Drawing on my aerospace background and experience with cutting-edge AI research, I strive to create narratives that explore what might be possible when we have the courage to look beyond conventional boundaries.
For years, these books were just a fun idea bouncing around in my head. I credit my prolific author girlfriend with inspiring me to write my ideas down, do some research to flesh them out, and bring them to life in book form. My daughter—the light of my life—helped me bring these alien worlds to visual life as my graphic artist. She’s also a brilliant young scientist and engineer that was the inspiration for my protagonist.
Welcome to THE VENUS COLLECTIVE SERIES, and thanks for joining me on this epic journey.
~ Mike
